2018 Alder Springs Syrah

Alder Springs Vineyards encompasses 150 acres of the some of the most pristine vineyard land in the northern most part of Mendocino County.  This deep Syrah was grown on the Spirit Rock portion of the vineyard at over 2700 ft. of elevation.  The cool evening temperatures and warm days allowed the 383 Syrah clone to maintain the dark anise flavors as well as a dose of white pepper. 

Once again we fermented 50% whole cluster, with 4% Viognier (no bears this year!). Thus, the 2018 is a tightly focused, anise, and flora driven Syrah, with impeccable color.

Nose opens with florals including violets and lavender with hints of graphite and char.  Alder’s signature brightness is evident from the first sip.  Bursting with dark summer fruits, first of the year wild black berry with a spicy back end.  The whole cluster fermentation adds to the fine peppery notes but also the florals.  Walk away from this wine for 20 mins you will come back to whole new experience.
